The Milwaukee Brewers finished the 2026 season as champions, beating the Rays to claim the franchise's first World Series title. The Rays enter the 2027 season still chasing their own first crown. The game also closed the book on the schedule and opened a tightly packed offseason calendar.

That calendar runs into a labor dispute. The current collective bargaining agreement expires at 11:59 p.m. ET on Dec. 1, and owners are expected to lock out the players once it lapses. Commissioner Rob Manfred and the owners' bargaining group have not agreed to terms with the players' union. A stoppage could stretch past the December dates and into spring training or the 2027 regular season if no deal is reached before camps open.

Transactions start moving again before then. At 9 a.m. ET on Oct. 29, players with at least six years of service time became free agents, and trades involving 40-man roster players resumed for the first time since the summer deadline. Free agents spend their first five days talking only with their most recent club. Very few sign in that window; Edwin Díaz's return to the Mets four years ago stands as the most prominent example.

Nov. 1 and Nov. 2 carry the densest cluster of deadlines. Gold Glove winners are set for 8:30 p.m. ET on Nov. 1 in an ESPN broadcast, with the Cubs and Blue Jays each placing five finalists. Most club and player options come due Nov. 2, including Michael King's decision with the Padres, Bo Bichette's with the Mets, and Baltimore's $20 million option on Luis Robert Jr. Qualifying offers are also due Nov. 2 at a value of $23.15 million for one year, according to the New Post. The Mariners can extend one to Randy Arozarena; the Tigers cannot send one to Tarik Skubal because he was traded during the season. Free agency opens that day at 5 p.m. ET.

Awards coverage runs Nov. 9 through Nov. 12 on MLB Network, with broadcasts at 7 p.m. ET each night covering rookies, managers, Cy Young winners and then MVPs. The general managers' meetings run Nov. 10 to 12 in Las Vegas. Nov. 17 packs several items: Silver Slugger winners, a 4 p.m. ET deadline for free agents to accept or decline qualifying offers, and a 6 p.m. ET deadline for teams to file reserve lists ahead of the Rule 5 Draft. Owners meet in New York from Nov. 17 to 19. The non-tender deadline is Nov. 20.

The Hall of Fame's Classic Baseball Committee results, scheduled for Dec. 6, will be released as planned regardless of labor developments. Later dates remain in question: the Winter Meetings in San Diego from Dec. 7 to 9, the Dec. 8 draft lottery, the Dec. 9 Rule 5 Draft, the Jan. 8 arbitration filing deadline, the Jan. 15 international signing period and the Jan. 19 announcement of the 2027 Hall of Fame class. The Winter Meetings and Rule 5 Draft were called off during the last lockout. The international signing period proceeded on schedule in that cycle.
