One of Russia's five largest oil refineries is on fire following a drone attack on the night of November 2 and 3. The facility, located in Yaroslavl, was targeted while supplying fuel to the country's defence industry and civilian regions.
Ukrainian monitoring channels Exilenova+, Exile+, and Supernova+ confirmed the strike. Russian media outlet Astra analyzed reader-submitted photos and videos to verify the location. An Astra OSINT expert identified the burning site as the Slavneft-YANOS plant, also known as the Yaroslavl Oil Refinery.
Yaroslavl Oblast Governor Mikhail Yevrayev reported that an air-raid warning sounded at 03:00 due to a drone threat. A missile alert followed later in the night. Visual evidence posted after the incident shows a large blaze consuming the refinery's premises.
The plant is jointly controlled by Rosneft and Gazprom Neft. It produces petrol, diesel, fuel oil, aviation kerosene, lubricants, and paraffin. The refinery ships petroleum products to the Central and Northwestern Federal Districts and provides fuel to Moscow Oblast.
Defense industry facilities are key customers for the plant. The refinery supplies fuel for Russian military aircraft and equipment. This is not the first time the site has been targeted. Ukrainian defence forces struck the Yaroslavl refinery in late September.
