New York City experienced two distinct disruptions this week as protesters targeted major landmarks.

On Wednesday, a group of anti-ICE demonstrators blocked the entrances to the Brooklyn Bridge. The blockade began at 12:30 p.m. and halted traffic until 1:30 p.m. According to ABC7, the closure caused delays lasting approximately one hour. Drivers stuck in the resulting gridlock were seen pleading with the group to open the way. One commuter was heard saying, "I just want to get to work!" Protesters used megaphones to chant, "NYPD, K-K-K, I-C-E, THEY'RE ALL THE SAME!" Another participant called for the release of Oscar Bergal, a Dominican national arrested by ICE earlier this month after a shooting in Marble Hill. The NYPD confirmed that 14 people were arrested during the demonstration. No injuries were reported.

City leaders have remained silent on the bridge blockade so far. Fox News Digital reached out to the mayor's office for comment.

Earlier in the week, a separate incident occurred at the 9/11 Memorial. Port Authority Police arrested Johnathan Tijerina, 31, on charges related to vandalism. On Monday, red paint with the message "just stop killing kids" was sprayed across several engraved names on the memorial. Tijerina was captured on a self-recorded video performing the act. His organization, Just Stop Killing Kids, shared the footage on social media. In a separate post, the group stated that Tijerina was arrested on October 26, 2026. They added that he is demanding that President Trump and Mayor Mamdani enforce specific gun control measures, including universal background checks and a national gun registry.

A spokesperson for the 9/11 Memorial & Museum said security personnel and law enforcement responded quickly to the vandalism. "The 9/11 Memorial is a sacred place of reflection at the heart of a rebuilt World Trade Center that honors the 2,983 victims killed in the September 11, 2001 and February 26, 1993 terrorist attacks," the spokesperson said. "This brief incident was swiftly addressed by security staff and law enforcement, and the impacted area was immediately restored to its commemorative state."

Tijerina remains in custody following his arrest. The Brooklyn Bridge was reopened to full traffic after the 1:30 p.m. clearance on Wednesday.
