Star Wars actor Adam Driver has declared his tenure as Kylo Ren complete, closing the door on future appearances in the franchise. Speaking on The Rich Eisen Show, Driver stated that his run with the character is finished and that there will be no more Star Wars roles for him in that capacity.
The conclusion follows the rejection of a standalone film titled The Hunt for Ben Solo. Driver explained that he and director Steven Soderbergh developed a screenplay for the project over several years. They presented the script to Lucasfilm, where the team received positive feedback on the creative angle. However, the proposal moved to higher executives at Disney, specifically Bob Iger and Alan Bergman.
According to Driver, Iger and Bergman rejected the movie because they could not see how Ben Solo remained alive after the events of the existing trilogy. The studio leaders informed the team that the character was dead, effectively killing the project. Driver noted that while Lucasfilm understood the premise, the final decision came from the top of the studio structure. He added that he does not get to make the final call on the character's fate.
The development team included writers Scott Burns and Rebecca Blunt alongside Soderbergh. Driver described the collaborative process as earnest and resulting in a high-quality script. He emphasized that the team worked hard to create a compelling narrative, but the project stalled after the executive rejection. Soderbergh shared a similar view in April, suggesting the film would have moved forward if it were destined to happen.
The cancellation sparked a visible reaction from the fanbase. Driver acknowledged the intense response, describing it as incredible. He mentioned that he did not anticipate the scale of the support, which included billboards and aerial displays. A group of fans funded a plane to fly a banner reading Save The Hunt for Ben Solo over Walt Disney Studios in Burbank, California.
Driver said that if Disney wished to resurrect the project, they could, but it is not currently in their hands. He concluded that the opportunity has passed. The actor confirmed that his time playing the villain is over, with no plans for a return to the role.
The news confirms the end of an era for one of the franchise's most prominent modern characters. Driver's comments provide a clear timeline of the project's life and death, from initial development to executive rejection and public fan campaign. The story marks a definitive stop to Kylo Ren's narrative arc under Driver's performance.
