The Suncoast is transitioning into a period of clear skies and gradually dropping temperatures, yet flood warnings persist for several major rivers in West Central Florida. The Alafia River at Lithia, the Manatee River near Myakka Head, the Peace River at Zolfo Springs and Arcadia, and Horse Creek near Arcadia are all currently in flood stage.
Weather forecasters predict that most areas will remain dry tonight, with overnight temperatures falling into the lower 70s. Thursday and Friday are expected to feature abundant sunshine, with afternoon highs in the mid-80s and evening temperatures near 70 degrees. A cold front will move through by Saturday, causing temperatures to decline.
Saturday will bring sunny skies with highs near 83 degrees before overnight lows drop to the mid-60s. By Sunday, highs will hover around 81 degrees accompanied by a light northeast breeze. The cooler conditions are expected to continue into the following week, with afternoon temperatures settling into the upper 70s by Veterans Day. Rain chances remain minimal, though isolated showers are possible on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The most critical flooding situation exists along the Peace River at Arcadia. Moderate flooding is currently occurring, and major flooding is forecast. The river is projected to crest near 16.5 feet on Thursday evening. This rise in water levels may inundate homes in the River Acres neighborhood and affect nearby structures.
Resident safety depends on monitoring river levels and avoiding travel through flooded roadways. While the rain has stopped, water levels in the affected river basins have not yet receded to normal ranges.
Forecasters are also tracking a tropical disturbance that currently has a 30% chance of development over the next two days and a 50% chance over the next seven. The approaching cold front is expected to push this system eastward, moving it away from the Florida coastline.
