Democrats are preparing a seven-point investigative agenda for the 119th Congress, targeting specific executive actions and financial ties within the Trump administration. With the party now holding majorities in both chambers, members intend to utilize subpoena powers to compel testimony and retrieve records that were previously inaccessible.

The Epstein case remains a central focus. Lawmakers plan to examine the administration’s handling of federal documents and the relationship between the late financier and President Trump. Representative Jamie Raskin, the top Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee, stated that evidence involving 11 women presents a story distinct from the president’s claim that he knew Epstein only in Palm Beach.

Investigations into public corruption will also expand. Democrats aim to review the president’s business interests, including Truth Social and cryptocurrency ventures. Representative Robert Garcia, who is expected to chair the House Oversight Committee, has linked these financial activities to the current cost-of-living crisis. He noted that millions in dark money flow through the political system while some members trade stocks using non-public information.

Immigration enforcement will face hearings regarding alleged abuse by federal agents. This scrutiny follows the deaths of two U.S. citizens in Minnesota earlier this year. Representative Pramila Jayapal described the agency as rogue during an October field hearing in Austin, Texas, where lawmakers reviewed incidents of violence that lacked congressional oversight during the first two years of the current administration.

Public health and executive power are also on the agenda. Democrats will investigate the role of Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. in what they describe as an erosion of scientific research. Separately, committees plan to review major construction projects, including the White House East Wing remodel and the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool renovation, to ensure proper use of taxpayer funds.

The legislative branch will assert its war powers regarding the U.S. conflict with Iran. Democrats intend to press Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth on military costs and seek authorization for the use of force, a step not taken in previous campaigns this term. A House impeachment vote on Hegseth may occur during the lame-duck session.

Finally, the new Congress will scrutinize federal funding awarded to businesses owned by Elon Musk. A group of Silicon Valley House Democrats wrote to the White House in October to ensure the administration meets contractual obligations and prevents political interference in satellite internet services. They also plan to review the Department of Government Efficiency, which reduced the workforce but did not achieve its promised savings.
