A Kentucky doctor will not face criminal charges for the death of her 10-month-old grandchild. Madisonville police announced on Tuesday that a grand jury found insufficient probable cause to indict her.

The incident occurred on August 13. The grandmother picked up Scottie Crowell in the morning with the intention of dropping him off at daycare. She forgot the child was in the car and drove to her workplace, Owensboro Health Multi-Care.

She arrived at the hospital around 8 a.m. Scottie remained in the vehicle until approximately 4 p.m. His father attempted to collect him from daycare, but the child was not there. The father contacted his wife, who then called the grandmother at work.

Upon receiving the call, the grandmother ran outside and discovered Scottie still sitting in the car. First responders arrived after a 911 call and attempted lifesaving measures, but the infant died.

Scottie had been with his grandmother since the morning of August 13. The grand jury’s decision means the case will not proceed to trial in the commonwealth court.

Commonwealth’s Attorney Hannah Kington-Jarvis addressed the family’s situation in a statement. "I would ask that you keep the infant’s parents and family in your thoughts and prayers as they continue to grieve and process this unimaginable loss," she said.
