Jordanian security forces captured three armed men in a Monday shootout connected to a fatal church attack.

The violence began on Friday during a funeral at a Greek Orthodox church in the village of Hamoud, located in the Karak governorate. Nine people died and 40 others were injured in the incident, which occurred roughly 120 kilometers southwest of Amman.

State television reported that officers discovered the three suspects hiding in an abandoned house in Karak. The men refused to surrender and opened fire on the security team. Officers returned fire, wounding all three men before taking them into custody. The Public Security Directorate stated that no security personnel were injured during the exchange.

Officials recovered multiple firearms and ammunition from the suspects. The directorate described the attackers as extremist terrorists but did not name them or link them to a specific Islamist group. No organization has claimed responsibility for the shooting.

King Abdullah ordered security forces to respond with an iron fist to the attack on the country's Christian minority. Interior Minister Mazen al-Faraya said officials are reviewing factors that lead young people toward extremism. He added that all participants in the attack would be held accountable.

The directorate noted that the suspects had met their just fate, stating that terrorism has no place in the region.
