Alison Fernandez kept her Temple Terrace City Council seat on Tuesday night, joining two new members in the chamber.

Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections data shows Fernandez finishing with the highest total. She received 4,817 votes, or 28.50 percent of the tally.

Karen Michalski took one of the open seats with 4,258 votes, which equals 25.20 percent of the total. Amber Treat won the final spot with 3,275 votes, or 19.38 percent.

Two seats opened when Councilmembers Gil Schisler and James Chambers departed due to term limits. Five candidates competed for the three positions. Fernandez faced challengers in her own race. The other candidates in the at-large contest were Ryan Gessman and Eugene Papantoniou.

Gessman finished fourth with 2,602 votes, or 15.40 percent. Papantoniou placed last with 1,948 votes, or 11.53 percent.

The city operates under a council-manager system. The council acts as the policy-making branch and includes a mayor and four council members. They appoint a city manager to run daily operations. This differs from strong-mayor systems like Tampa, where the mayor holds more direct executive power.

Nearly 17,000 ballots were cast in the election. The results remain unofficial.
