Punta Gorda Airport is hosting a four-day event this month to help residents apply for TSA PreCheck membership.

The program launched in October 2011 to speed up security checks for low-risk travelers. Since then, the agency has expanded its network to include dedicated lanes at more than 200 U.S. airports. Most approved users report spending less than ten minutes in line. Members keep their shoes, belts, and light jackets on during screening. Laptops and liquids also remain inside bags.

The enrollment event is scheduled for November 17 through 20. IDEMIA, the official provider for the program since 2013, will operate out of the baggage claim area in the Bailey Terminal. The terminal is located at 28000 Airport Rd in Punta Gorda. U.S. citizens, nationals, and lawful permanent residents are eligible to sign up.

Applicants should complete the online form before arriving to save time. They must bring proof of identity and citizenship to the appointment. Staff will collect fingerprints and take a photo. The application fee is $79.75. Once approved, the membership lasts for five years.

Most people receive their Known Traveler Number within three to five days after their visit. Travelers must add this number to their flight reservations to use the benefits. Kaley Miller, the Chief Marketing Officer, said the pop-up service allows locals to skip the trip to Fort Myers or Sarasota for enrollment.

Those who miss the local event can apply online and visit one of IDEMIA's more than 500 enrollment centers across the country. Details are available at tsa.gov/precheck.
