Community groups in St. Petersburg are holding five distinct events this week to raise funds and recruit volunteers. The activities range from a scavenger hunt to archaeological work at a preserve.
Community Action Stops Abuse Pinellas will start its fourth annual scavenger hunt at noon on Saturday, Nov. 7. Participants race through downtown St. Petersburg to complete challenges. Clues are located between Beach Drive and the Grand Central District. Check-in begins at 11:30 a.m. at Welcome to the Farm, 242 1st Avenue N.
Tickets cost $35. The price includes an event T-shirt, lunch, and entry to an afterparty at Good Night John Boy starting at 3 p.m. Prizes go to top fundraising teams, scoring teams, and the best team costume. All proceeds support the organization's mission to create a violence-free Pinellas.
St. Pete Innovation District and Keep Pinellas Beautiful will lead a cleanup on 4th Street S. between 11th and 18th Avenues on Wednesday, Nov. 4. Volunteers meet at 300 13th Avenue S. from 9 a.m. to noon. The group provides garbage bags, litter pickers, and gloves. Volunteers must wear closed-toe shoes and bring water.
Anyone under 18 needs an adult present. Volunteers sign a liability waiver on site. Parking is free at the meeting location. People can join the cleanup at any time during the three-hour window.
The Florida Public Archaeology Network hosts a volunteer shell lab on Friday, Nov. 6. The session runs from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Weedon Island Preserve Cultural and Natural History Center, 1800 Weedon Drive NE. Volunteers clean, sort, and identify artifacts with professional archaeologists. No prior experience is required.
Friends of Strays Animal Shelter holds a casino night fundraiser at the Lealman Exchange Center on Saturday, Nov. 7. The event runs from 6 to 9 p.m. at 5175 45th Street N. Tickets are $75.
