A 21-year-old woman was booked into custody at 1:01 a.m. on Friday after allegedly posting a specific threat to kill President Donald Trump at a scheduled event in Daytona Beach.
Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood confirmed the arrest of Allison Jeanne Albro, noting that the Domestic Security Unit and the U.S. Secret Service investigated the incident. Albro was charged with written threats to kill or do bodily harm, as well as using a two-way communication device to commit a felony.
Jail records indicate that no bond was set for either charge. As of Friday afternoon, Albro remained detained at the Volusia County Jail. The sheriff’s office stated that they are coordinating with federal agencies to secure the venue for the presidential visit.
Chitwood shared a screenshot of the alleged social media post, which showed a photograph of Albro alongside a message detailing her plan to attend the rally and shoot the president with a Glock handgun. The post was made on Thursday night, prompting the investigation that led to her arrest the following morning.
During questioning, Albro told investigators that the post was intended as a joke. She denied having access to a Glock or any other firearm and stated she would never hurt anyone. Chitwood relayed these statements in a social media update, emphasizing that the department is working closely with the FBI and the Secret Service.
The sheriff issued a public warning to others considering similar online remarks. Chitwood advised anyone thinking of posting a joke in that vein to think twice, adding that the agency is not going to tolerate threats to assassinate the president.
The presidential visit to Daytona Beach is expected to draw a large crowd. Law enforcement partners are maintaining a high level of visibility to ensure safety for attendees and the surrounding community. Albro’s detention marks the latest security measure taken ahead of the event.
