Escambia County drops repair fees for storm damage
County officials waived application and inspection costs for projects linked to Hurricane Isaias, effective until further notice.

The Board of County Commissioners in Escambia County has waived all application and inspection fees for repairs connected to Hurricane Isaias damage. The temporary policy covers building permits, land use approvals, and development orders required for disaster recovery.
The fee waiver was enacted through an Emergency Order issued in late October 2026. County leaders stated that the decision recognizes the economic uncertainty currently facing residents and businesses following the storm. The order specifies that the waiver applies only to fees tied directly to Isaias-related repairs. Standard permitting procedures remain unchanged, and applicants must still obtain the necessary permits.
The waived costs include charges for building permits and various land use approvals. Specific land use categories covered by the waiver include fence permits, construction permits for the county right-of-way, driveway construction permits, and commercial sign permits. The policy also waives fees for permits allowing recreational vehicles to be used as temporary disaster recovery housing. Development orders required for these projects are also exempt from standard fees.
Applicants must provide evidence that the requested permit or approval is necessary to repair or replace structures damaged by the hurricane. Acceptable documentation includes photographs or videos of storm damage, copies of insurance claims, or other records approved by the county. The fee waiver is in effect until the Board issues further notice.
The Emergency Order does not alter the requirement for permits. All construction and land use changes must still follow the standard procedural requirements established by the county. The waiver serves to remove financial barriers for immediate recovery efforts while maintaining regulatory oversight.
