More than 6,000 connectors and plug-ins are now available to users of Claude Duet, the new application launched by Anthropic. This extensive library, housed in the Claude Marketplace, forms the backbone of the tool’s strategy to differentiate itself in a crowded field of personal and productivity-based assistants. The launch represents a significant push for Anthropic to capture user attention amid a wave of new entrants, including Meta Muse, OpenAI Dots, Hark, Instinct, Grok Bot, and Fo.

The company is positioning Duet specifically for professionals and small businesses rather than individual consumers. Anthropic draws a clear line between this new agent and personal assistants like Instinct, noting that Duet is not designed for handling simple errands or booking tickets. Furthermore, the system does not display its browser activity in real time. Instead, the focus is on automating and managing complex professional tasks. Duet can construct daily briefings, generate dashboards, and suggest specific actions based on the data provided by the user.

Like other agents in this emerging market, Duet operates by completing tasks in the background. It utilizes its own virtual machine to process work while the user attends to other duties. The system will only interrupt the user when it requires explicit approval to proceed. This approach aligns with a broader industry shift toward AI agents that work on behalf of users, moving beyond simple chat interfaces. Many of Anthropic’s rivals, such as Meta and OpenAI, have also begun emphasizing business use cases and integrations with professional tools to attract this segment.

Built on the Claude Opus 5.5 model, Duet offers proactive capabilities that monitor ongoing tasks to deliver timely recommendations. The application can facilitate online purchases on a user's behalf by linking to Stripe’s Link digital wallet or Shopify’s Shop Pay. However, the company has established strict boundaries to manage risk. Duet will not trade securities or transfer money between accounts, ensuring it remains a productivity aid rather than a full financial manager.

Security measures are a central component of the launch. Anthropic introduced a new classifier designed to inspect each message and prevent the leakage of sensitive information. By default, the agent will decline requests that ask for credit card numbers or government identification documents. For actions that are sensitive, such as payments, user approval is mandatory before the transaction is finalized.

Claude Duet is currently available as a mobile application for iOS and Android devices. It is also accessible on the web through Claude.ai. The service is offered as a research preview for Pro and Max customers. To access the tool, users must join a waitlist, a step that underscores the high demand and the competitive nature of the current AI assistant market.
